Archives of Photographic PLates for Astronomical USE

Description

The APPLAUSE Data Release 1 contains metadata about photographic plates and data extracted from digitized plates.

The source catalogue contains 1.66 billion extracted sources. The majority of sources have their positions (right ascension and declination) calibrated with the help of the UCAC4 catalogue. The database contains 837 million sources with matched UCAC4 designations and 111 million sources with Tycho-2 designations.

The APPLAUSE DR1 database is organised in 13 tables.

Along with the data we publish the version of the pyplate software which was used to process the scanned material.

Tables

An archive in APPLAUSE is a collection of plates, logbooks, and extracted data that originate from a specific instrument. The archive table contains one row for each plate archive. Unique Identifier archive_id

The table contains data on photographic plates or films as physical objects. An entry in this table does not guarantee that a scan of the plate is available. Unique Identifier plate_id

Exposure time and observation time for plates. Unique Identifier exposure_id

Sub exposures provide exposures, which were split into n fragments. Unique Identifier exposure_id

The scan table registers all ingested scans of the photographic plates, giving sizes, etc. Unique Identifier scan_id

Table of extracted sources. A row in the source table corresponds to an extracted source from a plate scan. Unique Identifier source_id

This table contains raw magnitudes (from source table), sky coordinates and source designations, exposure and observation time. Unique Identifier source_id.

Information about logbooks from various archives or observation sites. There is no direct relation betweeen a plate and a logbook. Unique Identifier logpage_id

The logpage table contains data on individual digitized logbook pages and also images of plate covers/envelopes. Unique Identifier logpage_id

The plate_logpage table stores links between plates and logbook pages / plate envelopes.

The process table contains data on pyplate"s processing of source extraction and astrometric calibration of plate scans. Unique Identifier process_id

The table contains astrometric solutions of plate scans. Unique Identifier solution_id
